The night we got home after our pre-wedding photo shoot with Polly and Ralph I was so excited at the prospect of sharing these photos – and of photographing their wedding in Suffolk in August – that I couldn’t get to sleep! No mean feat considering we’d been up since 6.00 a.m. and on our feet in London for most of the day. We had such a great time and Polly and Ralph were a great couple to spend time with – welcoming, chatty and up for anything, not to mention the most natural models and SO sweet together! As photographers we love being able to work in new environments and try out new challenges, and our photo shoot in London was everything we hoped for and more.
We started our day over the road from Polly and Ralph’s in quirky and delightful Battersea Park. Quite a world away from the admittedly lovely but always crowded tourist trap parks of central London, Battersea Park is full of interesting features and pretty vistas: a perfect backdrop for these first few images…
After our extended walk around Battersea Park we rather thought Polly and Ralph might be ready to head home, but hoorah they were more than happy to let us keep shooting. And so we very excitedly headed off to the South Bank for a change of scene…after all, we’d come to the city so it would have been a shame not to grab some urban shots…
A few of my favourites coming up now, and I’ll tell you the story of one of my best memories of the day. Before we went down to London Chris and I were talking about our ideas for the shoot, and one particular thing that Chris wanted to do was a photograph with the couple standing still in the middle of the image, totally wrapped up in one another, and skateboarders whizzing by in a blur of colour and movement, all shot among graffiti’d walls. And it was just the greatest thing that everything came together to enable him to create this brilliant image…When we first arrived at this location on the South Bank there wasn’t a skateboarder in sight, but then all of a sudden a group of skaters turned up. After a quick conflab with Polly and Ralph, during which they confirmed they were willing to dice with danger and stand still while the skateboarders passed by at close quarters, Chris went over the skaters to tell them what he had in mind. They were very lovely and obliging, and the apparent leader of the group even gathered his mates round and passed on Chris’s instructions; then they all did several pass-bys until this shot was created! I just love it…
Thank you so much Polly and Ralph for being so much fun to work with – we had a great day and we can’t wait for the wedding!
Up next…a sneak preview from Anna & Paul’s gorgeous summer wedding!
